The existing

A two-room flat and, above it, an attic that had never been lived in.

The transformation

Prop before touching the structure, take down the floor, then connect. A metal spiral stair rises through the new opening; a glazed screen in the same metal lets light pass from one level to the other.

The two levels are now joined.
